About the Project

Background

Our client is an award-winning Ed-Tech startup based in Canada that aids international students and newcomers in launching successful careers within 15 weeks. 

Their mission is to empower students to achieve their dream jobs. So leadership recognized that they needed a robust web solution that’s like a career-launching toolkit. They want to build a platform combining Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) and AI-powered resume builders. 

It’s an all-encompassing platform that empowers students to learn virtually, craft captivating resumes, construct profiles, and join in career-elevating events.

The startup did not have a development team. So, they collaborated with Technext to develop the MVP.

The Vision

The startup aims to streamline international students’ and newcomers’ career launch journeys by providing them with a comprehensive AI-powered platform.

The Canadian educational technology industry is worth around 2 billion and has experienced continuous growth since the last decade. While several ed-tech businesses provide mainstream services, no companies provide tailored services to foreign students.

The startup founders realized the market gap and want to help international students and newcomers prepare for the market through their platform.

Service Process

Technext had several meetings with the client before starting the project. During these meetings, we identified that the client needed a tailor-made web application solution.
We created a Software Requirement Specification (SRS) and presented various engagement options to the client. The client chose a fixed-price model and opted for the custom web application development service.

Design Process

The design process began with establishing the design objectives and refining the functionalities of the SES. Since the project is more than a conventional ed-tech platform, we had to cover all the features while providing a good user experience.

We encountered certain design challenges, with one of the key issues being:

  • Prioritizing features, creating a clear hierarchy, and ensuring that the diverse functionalities work seamlessly to avoid overwhelming users.
  • Balancing the integration of sophisticated AI features while maintaining a user-friendly and intuitive experience.

The Learning Management System (LMS) is a central hub for education, management courses, and seamless delivery of multimedia content to create an enjoyable learning experience.

Moreover, the LMS comes with advanced filters based on skills, preferences, and course categories. This allows users to personalize their learning journey. Additionally, there’s a special section for featured courses, giving prominence to selected courses on the platform.

A student profile and portfolio feature that lets individuals present their achievements and projects. Think of it as crafting a digital canvas where students can creatively exhibit their academic and extracurricular successes, forming an engaging gallery of accomplishments.

AI-Powered Resume Builder

Unlike other AI-powered CV makers that prioritize speed and generate generic resumes, the resume builder we created is designed to assist students in crafting personalized resumes tailored to their data and industry requirements.

Leveraging Open AI Da Vinci and fine-tuned with guidance from professional career coaches, this advanced resume builder empowers students to create compelling and customized resumes that stand out in the competitive job market.

AI-Powered Resume Scorer

We also created a resume scorer that allows students to evaluate the quality of their resumes. It utilizes a custom scoring algorithm and leverages the capabilities of the OpenAI GPT-3.5 model, Da Vinci, enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of the scoring process.

Job Board with Precision Job Matching

The system also has a job board module with a precision job-matching feature. We implemented advanced NLP, surpassing traditional keyword matching. This intelligent system evaluates candidates’ skills, aspirations, and interests to present a carefully curated list of job opportunities.

Development Challenges

  • Creating an actionable SRS from the informal requirements of the non-tech founders was the first challenge.
  • Creating a complex software architecture incorporating a wide range of features and modules while maintaining a seamless experience.
  • Integration of openAI DaVinci with different modules of the solution while keeping the number of API requests at a minimum level to reduce the API cost.
  • Creating the personalized resume builder was particularly challenging as it required advanced fine-tuning.
  • Advanced NLP implementation during precision job matching feature creation.
