Building Rally’s Custom Shopify Store for a Canadian Premium Tennis Ball Brand

Overview

Rally is a Canadian tennis brand built around one straightforward idea: players should never have to worry about running out of balls. They sell ITF-approved, premium tennis balls through a direct-to-consumer model, with options for both one-time purchases and recurring subscriptions. Their lineup covers two court types, the Master for hard courts and the Challenger for clay, and the whole experience is built around making it easy for players to stay ready.

When Rally needed a development partner to build their Shopify store, they came to Technext. Our role was to take what the client envisioned and turn it into a fully functional, customized Shopify storefront.

What We Built

Custom Shopify Theme Development Standard Shopify themes were not going to cut it for a brand like Rally. The store required bold full-bleed layouts, custom section structures, and precise control over how each page element behaved. We built and customized the theme at a component level to support the full range of pages and interactions the client needed.

Multi-page Store Setup We developed every page of the store, including the homepage, individual product pages for the Master and Challenger balls, a subscriptions page, gift card page, about page, FAQ, contact form, blog, and all policy pages. Each page was built to work cohesively as part of a single storefront rather than assembled from generic templates.

Subscription Purchase Flow The subscriptions page was one of the more involved parts of the build. Customers needed to select their ball type, choose a quantity per month, and pick a delivery frequency, all within a single, clean interface. We structured this flow so the options updated correctly and connected smoothly to checkout.

Product Collection with Filters The shop page displays 12 product listings across both ball types and multiple bundle sizes. We built a working filter system by ball type and bundle quantity, giving customers a quick way to find exactly what they were looking for without unnecessary friction.

Navigation, Cart Drawer, and Search We implemented a multi-level navigation with dropdown menus, a slide-out cart drawer, and a search overlay that surfaces trending products. These elements were built to feel like a natural part of the store rather than out-of-the-box Shopify components.

Responsive Build Every page was developed and tested across screen sizes. For a direct-to-consumer brand, mobile performance is not optional, and we treated it as a baseline requirement throughout the build.

What Technext Delivered

A complete Shopify storefront, built from the ground up, that supports Rally’s full product catalog and subscription model. Every page was developed with attention to the brand’s identity, and every interaction was tested to make sure it held up in practice.

Technext’s involvement was purely on the development side. The client handled everything else independently. Our job was to build a store that worked, and that is what we delivered.
